Les transgressifs détournements de genre de la compagnie EG | PC dirigée par Emio Greco et Pieter C. Scholten se poursuivent dans [purgatorio] POPOPERA. À Hell (Enfer), pièce créée en 2006, succède une première variation sur le purgatoire, inspirée, comme le précédent spectacle, de La Divine Comédie de Dante. Figure emblématique de ce parcours en spirale que l’on retrouve dans le mouvement des interprètes, la guitare électrique. L’instrument devient ici tour à tour objet de cérémonie ou extension du corps des danseurs. Évoluant sur la corde tendue des mélodies rock ou des stridences de la partition du compositeur Michael Gordon, la danse devient un spectacle à double vocation, une invitation au voyage. In (purgatorio) POPOPERA the EG I PC company, under the leadership of Emio Greco and Pieter C. Scholten, goes on with its transgressive and subversive venture. Hell, created in 2006, is followed by a first variation on Purgatorio, both pieces drawing their inspiration from Dante’s Divine Comedy. The electric guitar is the emblem of this spiralling voyage – the spiral is also present in the performers’ movements. The guitar is in turn the object of a cult or an extension of the dancers’ body. Michael Gordon’s score alternates rock music and strident chords, creating an extreme tension between two different callings: the ballet invites the audience to a journey from one into the other.
